 Lopez Island is a unique, rural community of about 2500 people that is diverse by age, background and thought. It is also a popular tourist destination—the population doubles in the summer.  We are excited to be offering a newly constructed Vicarage as housing.

Grace Church is a small congregation, representative of the larger community in its range of ages, backgrounds and needs.  We are looking for a candidate with energy, intelligence and education, an appreciation of the arts and Anglican culture, who can establish credible relationships to a wide range of parishioners, young and old, liberal and conservative. The new Vicar/Priest in Charge will be able to build new programs, strengthen ties to the community, and enlarge the congregation.

Shared Ministry Priorities

  • Continue to deepen our sense of connection to God and one another through moving worship experiences.
  • Develop ministries that work toward healing those broken by life circumstances (e.g., grief, divorce, job loss, addiction, family violence, homelessness, immigration issues).
  • Help members discern their gifts and equip them for ministries that are a good fit for them. Support their spiritual growth and development.
  • Encourage our members to engage in church programs with their time and resources.

Job Description

We are offering a half-time vicar’s position with these responsibilities:

  • Fulfill the role of vicar as required by Canon law.
  • Establish a work schedule that includes regular office hours and out-of-office availability.
  • Lead worship, preside and preach the Gospel approximately 42 Sundays per year.
  • Conduct pastoral care and counseling for the good of the parish, either in person, through phone or email, as appropriate. Refer all long-term counseling to qualified professionals.
  • Develop a Christian formation program through which persons of all ages will learn the content of our Faith and its application to daily living.
  • Encourage a discipline of stewardship of money, time and spiritual gifts.
  • Deepen his/her own spiritual life and maintain a positive Christian example.
